After decades of delighting Monterey County with exceptional food and service, Don and Susan Gibbons are passing the torch of their beloved Portobellos Catering to long-time chef Miguel Xirum. This transition marks a heartfelt milestone in the business's storied history, as the new ownership introduces a refreshed identity: Valley Restaurant and Catering.

For over 40 years, Don and Susan Gibbons have been the heart of Portobellos Catering, serving everything from house parties to grand corporate events, community celebrations, and even renowned community events like the California International Salinas Airshow. Their unwavering dedication to using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and creating memorable experiences has made them a staple in the Salinas Valley community.

Miguel Xirum, longtime chef of Portobellos Catering, who has worked side by side with Gibbons for over 20 years, brings a wealth of experience, passion, and deep community ties to their new roles as owners. Under his leadership, Valley Restaurant and Catering will continue the tradition of offering unparalleled catering services while expanding its reach to include a vibrant restaurant experience on 9 E. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.

The new name reflects a renewed focus on celebrating the Salinas Valley’s rich heritage and community. Valley Restaurant and Catering aims to embody the region’s best and brightest, emphasizing local ingredients, local people, and local pride.
