FEDERAL PANDEMIC UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE UNDER CARES ACT EXPIRES NEXT MONTH, AMERICA’S JOB CENTER EXPANDS HOURS TO PUT PEOPLE BACK TO WORK

On September 4, 2021, the federal unemployment insurance program, known as the Pandemic Unemployment Insurance benefit, created under the CARES Act will expire in California and across the states. “Starting today, over three million California workers impacted by the expiration of these critical federal programs were notified by the Employment Development Department (EDD).” said Monterey County Workforce Development Board Director, Christopher Donnelly.

As such, the Monterey County Workforce Development Board has expanded hours for job seekers at all three of its One Stop Career Centers (as known as America’s Job Center of California) in Monterey County. “Our Career Centers in Marina, Salinas, and Seaside are open for business from 10AM-4PM, Monday through Friday. We’ve expanded our hours to serve our community and hope that job seekers will take full advantage of our program and services,” said Donnelly. “We’re asking job seekers to contact us to set up appointments with our talent coaches as soon as possible.

Locations include:

  • Monterey Peninsula Education Center at Marina, 289 Twelfth Street, Marina, Room 402, (831) 597-2858
  • Three Salinas Square, 344 Salinas Street, Suite 203, Salinas, (831) 796-3335
  • Seaside Adult School, 1295 LaSalle Blvd. Seaside, (831) 708-6484

6.9% or 15,900 of Monterey County individuals are still unemployed according to July statistics from the Employment Development Department. “The One Stop Career Center emphasis is on serving a wide range of individuals,” said Donnelly. “Our programs provide individuals with workforce preparation, career services, training services, and job placement assistance needed to increase occupational skill attainment, obtain industry-recognized credentials, and secure a good job that provides earnings that lead to self-sufficiency.” The program serves individuals and helps employers meet their workforce needs.
