About

The First Mayor's House is the only living history center in Salinas. Built in 1868, it was one of the first buildings in the new town of Salinas City and served as the Harvey-Baker family home for almost 100 years. Now restored to the 1870s, the House is operated by a non-profit board with the goal of '' bringing the past to life for the people of today.'' The House offers Open Houses on the first Saturday of each Monday, teacher institutes, interactive class visits with costumed docents, and special events that help participants grasp when life was like almost 150 years ago. The House and Education Center can also be rented for private or group functions. To learn more about the Harvey family and the First Mayor's House, visit our website at www.firstmayorshouse.com.
