The Western Stage - "Working A Musical"
Thursday, June 16, 2022 12:30 PM - Sunday, June 19, 2022 2:00 PM (PDT)
Description
WORKING A Musical is a terrific, fast-moving, patriotic tribute to the American worker, based on Studs Terkel's best-selling book of interviews with American working men and women.
This show paints a vivid portrait of the workers that we so often forget and take for granted: the schoolteacher, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the housewife and the fireman, to name a few. The show explores in song, dance, scene and monolog what it really is like to be a worker in America. It reveals the enduring fundamental truth that transcend specific professions and illustrates how people's relationships to their work is ultimately an essential aspects of their basic humanity.
Nominated for six Tony Awards, WORKING has been updated and features new songs by the Tony Award-winning composer of “Hamilton,” Lin-Manuel Miranda, as well as some favorites by Stephen Schwartz, Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, Micki Grant, and several more wonderful composers. The result is a moving experience, a salutation and heart-felt thank you for all the work they do for all of us. With modest orchestral requirements, universal subject matter, and a diverse ensemble cast, WORKING is one of the most accessible, relevant and substantive musicals ever created. It is a sincerely honest and joy filled experience.
