ALBA Celebrates National Fruits & Vegetables Month by Cultivating New Farmers and Fresh Food in the Salinas Valley

SALINAS, Calif. – As the country celebrates National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month this June, the Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA) is spotlighting the farmers behind the produce—and the power of farming to change lives.

Located in the heart of the Salinas Valley, ALBA offers land-based education and support to aspiring organic farmers. The nonprofit organization helps participants build successful organic farm businesses or advance into better jobs across the agricultural sector.

“Our mission is to create economic opportunity for aspiring organic farmers while strengthening the sustainable agriculture workforce,” said Patricia Carrillo, Executive Director of ALBA. “National Fruits and Vegetables Month is the perfect time to honor our farmers and their critical role in feeding our communities.”

ALBA trains over 80 individuals each year through its Farmer Education and Enterprise Development (FEED) program. Graduates can launch their own farms through ALBA’s Organic Farm Incubator, leasing land at below-market rates while receiving ongoing mentorship and technical assistance.

The impact is long-term and far-reaching. While 10–12 new organic farms launch each year, many more participants leverage their skills to secure higher-paying jobs or pursue further education.

Call to Action: Support ALBA’s Mission
ALBA relies on community support to keep training affordable, farmland accessible, and produce flowing from fields to families. In honor of National Fruits and Vegetables Month, donations made in June will be matched dollar-for-dollar.
