Philanthropic Grants and Other Contributions Help Address workforce development and basic needs

Monterey, Calif. – As part of its longstanding commitment to supporting economic opportunity and local communities, Bank of America has directed over $500,000 to local nonprofits across the Monterey Bay in 2023. The philanthropic grants, sponsorships, and employee giving matching went to programs and organizations supporting workforce development, small business, and basic needs in communities.

For instance, in 2023, Bank of America invested philanthropic capital to help build career pathways with Hartnell College’s paid Ag Tech and Career Technical Education programs, and with Rancho Cielo for youth job skills programs. In addition, two local high school students from King City and Carmel were selected for the prestigious Bank of America Student Leaders program providing paid summer internships with the Monterey County Boys & Girls Club.

Bank of America also recently named Housing Matters - the largest provider of services to those experiencing homelessness in Santa Cruz County - as its Neighborhood Champion, providing the organization with a $50,000, multi-year grant along with leadership training to help the organization scale its homeless services efforts.

“Nonprofits understand the needs and obstacles the Monterey Bay faces, uniquely positioning them to develop the solutions and services needed to promote economic opportunity,” said Jennifer Dacquisto, president, Bank of America Monterey Bay. “Bank of America will continue to deploy capital and resources to tackle the barriers embedded within our community and create real impact in the lives of the Monterey Bay individuals and families we serve.”

Going beyond the dollars, the bank’s local employees provided more than 4,000 volunteer hours last year to local causes, ranging from assisting with food distribution to providing free financial education workshops in English and Spanish as part of the bank’s Better Money Habits program.
