Coastal Roots Hospitality’s (CRH) Pick It Up-Pay It Forward shifts focus to Rape Crisis Center during Sept.-Oct.
Coastal Roots Hospitality’s Pick It Up-Pay It Forward program (PIU-PIF) continues to strengthen and support key charity partners, with the philanthropic initiative eclipsing $40,000 in donations to date in 2023. The charity partner for September and October will be Monterey County Rape Crisis Center. The nonprofit agency’s mission is to provide ongoing advocacy, support and healing for all victims and survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking and child abuse. It also helps prevent sexual violence in its community through education.
Through the initiative, CRH donates 10 percent of all proceeds from takeout orders (that do not use Delivery services) from its three restaurants — Rio Grill in Carmel, and Tarpy’s and Montrio in Monterey. Aligning with the restaurant’s mission of Faith, Family, Friends and Food, the initiative was started to not only provide financial assistance but also additional recognition to the public of the many non-profits on the Monterey Peninsula that provide valuable services.
Most recently, CRH owners Ken and Mona Donkersloot presented a check in the amount $10,140.44 to Salinas nonprofit Loaves, Fishes & Computers, its May-June recipient. Rounding out the year will be The Bridge Restoration/Monterey (Nov.-Dec.). Since inception during COVID in 2020, the PIU-PIF program has donated almost $300,000 to local non-profits.
CRH encourages the community to help support the program by picking up takeout from its three diverse restaurant menus. For more information on CRH, or to view the menus, visit www.coastalrootshospitality.com.
CRH has always embraced its responsibility to help strengthen and support the communities it serves through a variety of initiatives. Late last year, the Association of Fundraising Professionals honored the Donkersloots with the award for 2022 Philanthropic Corporation of the Year.
