Hartnell College Art Gallery to host reception on Feb. 26 in advance of California artist Megan Koth’s solo exhibition ‘Skin Deep’

SALINAS, Calif., — The Hartnell College Art Gallery will host a reception for “Skin Deep,” a solo exhibition by California artist Megan Koth, on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors are invited to gather with the community and experience the exhibition while enjoying live music and hospitality, including a complimentary taco bar and free wine for guests 21 and over (Hartnell follows all campus policies regarding alcohol service).
Koth’s work examines the complex relationship between the surface and interior of the body, bringing together painting, self-portraiture and imagery drawn from contemporary beauty culture to explore themes of ritual, control and vulnerability.

Based in Ventura, Koth earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2020. She currently serves as Graduate Program Manager and lecturer in the UCSB Department of Art. Her practice has been featured in publications including Hyperallergic, LA Weekly and Voyage Phoenix, and her work is held in private collections across the country.
The works featured in “Skin Deep” consider how beauty rituals — including skincare, makeup and image curation — function as both healing gestures and sites of anxiety. Koth’s paintings move between clinical observation and intimate self-examination, employing a queer feminist lens to challenge familiar ideas of grooming, self-care and the politics of appearance.
Koth’s recent recognition includes a residency at Taft Gardens in Ojai, and exhibitions at CSU Channel Islands’ Napa Gallery, the Chandler Museum in Arizona and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to check for schedule updates prior to arrival.
