Interim, Inc. to Break Ground on Marina Kai Apartments, New Permanent Supportive Housing Community in Marina

Groundbreaking celebration scheduled for November 10 at 11:00 a.m.

MARINA, Calif. — 10/01/2026 — Interim, Inc. will celebrate the groundbreaking of Marina Kai Apartments on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 601 Bayonet Circle in Marina.

Marina Kai Apartments will create new permanent supportive housing for low-income adults living with serious mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The three-story development will include 23 studio apartments, one resident manager unit, shared community spaces, and on-site support offices.

The groundbreaking marks an important transition for the project as Marina Kai moves from years of planning, fundraising and community partnership into construction.

“Marina Kai represents far more than the construction of a new building. It represents the opportunity for people who have experienced homelessness and serious mental illness to have a safe place to call home, along with the support they need to build greater stability and independence,” said Dr. Rhiyan Quiton, Executive Director of Interim, Inc. “We are especially grateful to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for its $12.1 million HOME-ARP investment, which includes an operating subsidy for 15 years, and to Central California Alliance for Health for its $2.5 million investment in Marina Kai. Their extraordinary support, together with that of our many philanthropic and community partners, is what has made this project possible.”

Marina Kai is being developed as permanent supportive housing, an approach that combines affordable, stable housing with access to supportive services. On-site support offices and community spaces will help residents remain connected to services and build long-term housing stability.

The project has received support from public agencies, foundations, businesses and individual donors. Major funding partners include the California Department of Housing and Community Development through HOME-ARP funding; Central California Alliance for Health; Berkshire Foundation; Monterey Peninsula Foundation, host of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee; Interfaith Outreach of Carmel’s Joining Hands Benefit Shop; the Harden Foundation; and the Community Foundation for Monterey County. Interim is deeply grateful to these funders, along with the many other community donors and supporters who have helped make Marina Kai Apartments possible. Interim leadership, community partners, supporters and members of the project team will gather at the November 10 event to commemorate the beginning of construction.

The groundbreaking is free and open to invited community members and supporters, and registration is requested.
