Public Invited to Comment on Roundabouts Replacing Traffic Lights on Highway 68 Between Salinas and Monterey

Chamber Headlines Press Releases

In cooperation with the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC), Caltrans is proposing the "Scenic Route 68 Corridor Improvements Project" to improve intersection operations to reduce traffic delays, reduce the rate and severity of vehicle and wildlife collisions, and improve bicycle and pedestrian access.  To achieve these goals, the project would add either roundabouts (Alternative 1) or signalized intersection improvements (Alternative 2) to nine currently signalized intersections on a nearly nine-mile stretch of State Route 68 from approximately Josselyn Canyon Road in the west to San Benancio Road in the east. On November 9, Caltrans released a "Draft Environmental Impact Report" (DEIR) and invited public comment. See the report at this web site: Scenic Route 68 Corridor Improvements Project Draft Environmental Impact Report.

Three public hearings will also be held on the project:
1. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Hospitality Pavilion, 1021 Monterey Salinas Highway, Salinas, California 939082. Thursday, November 16, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Police Activities League, 100 Howard Street, Salinas, California 939013. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Monterey Conference Center, 1 Portola Plaza, Monterey, California 93940
Contact the Chamber if you have any questions or comments about how this would affect commerce and business.
