Salinas, Calif. – The month of September is an annual observance held to increase public awareness of mental health and substance use disorders. Valley Health Associates (VHA) is taking this opportunity to celebrate the progress and recognize those who are a testament that recovery is possible and uplift those who are walking that walk with expert support.
“Recovery Month reminds us that recovery is possible, and no one should have to walk that path alone,” said La Tonya Glover, Executive Director at Valley Health Associates. “At Valley Health Associates, we see every day the courage it takes to seek help and the incredible strength of individuals and families rebuilding their lives.”
The team at VHA has entered a new era of service and innovation, fostering transformational change in Monterey and San Benito Counties. Services provided include prevention, intervention, and ongoing counseling services.
“Our responsibility is to meet people with dignity, compassion, and effective treatment, wherever they are in their recovery journey; and make sure that when someone is ready for help, help is within reach,” Glover said.
Three events are tailored around recovery this month:
· Day of Hope – Wednesday, September 2, 6:30 – 10:00 AM (Open to the public)
Coffee, Snacks, and more at 913 Blanco Circle, Salinas, CA
· Third Annual Youth Event – (registration required)
Saturday, September 12, 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM
A conference with workshops, information, and fun for youth
· Recovery Run tabling – Saturday, September 19 (Open to all + registration)
Marina VA Clinic, 8:00 AM
VHA serves vulnerable populations that include housing insecurity, food insecurity, and system-impacted individuals. Added to the services is the wellness program, which offers safe spaces to meditate or work out, art, equine and gardening therapy, a food pantry, and more.
In addition, two mobile wellness units have been added to the services VHA provides with focus in Seaside, Marina, Soledad, and Hollister. These wellness units are equipped with professionals to meet clients where they are, eliminating the transportation hurdle many have.
